Juergen is leading a photography workshop on the boat. We’re seeing good stuff, taking good images but then I make a pretty big mistake…
It’s my birthday morning but it’s an honour to be showing this crew of keen photographers the glory of the river in early morning light. Riverine scenery, kingfishers, basket ferns, mangrove flowers, and flycatchers each become the focus of separate photo shoots. The tide though is quickly rising and I still want to show the crew my favourite stretch of scenery far down the creek beyond the bridge. We rush to photograph a very picturesque copse of Water Gums with twisted roots and incredible reflections. Next, I make a bad decision to have a look at a pair of nesting flycatchers, and my worst case scenario develops…the tide has risen too high to retreat back under the bridge! Very, very embarrassing! My guests are happy though… they get to enjoy an additional hour exploring the creek waiting for the tide to fall.
